Fat, Oil, and Grease (F.O.G.) Program

Fat, Oil, and Grease (F.O.G.)

The North Huntingdon Township Municipal Authority’s (NHTMA) Sewer Use, Rules, and Regulations Section 6.08 prohibits the discharge of sewage containing more than 100 mg/L of fat, oil and grease (F.O.G). However, despite this regulation, fat, oil, and grease accumulation in the sanitary sewer collection system remains a chronic issue. NHTMA is introducing a F.O.G. program as a solution to begin to rectify this problem.

Whether originating from a food service facility, car wash, business performing vehicle and equipment maintenance, or another source, any F.O.G. reaching the sanitary sewer system can cause a variety of problems. Issues range from sewer line clogs, possibly causing sewage overflows or backups, to decreased treatment efficiency, resulting from the microorganisms at the sewage treatment plant being metabolically overloaded with an overabundance of  F.O.G.

Pollution Prevention is the most cost effective and sustainable method to deal with blocked sewers and raw sewage overflows in our community. Your cooperation adds up to a significant and measurable impact. Please talk to your neighbors and other business owners to encourage them to follow these preventative practices.

Below, you can  find all the documents and forms necessary to begin and maintain a successful F.O.G. program.
